Christantus Uche Ignites Straightforward Crystal Palace Win at Irish Side Shelbourne.

Even though embarking on their first-ever European campaign, Crystal Palace are learning very quickly. Without key players like forward Jean-Philippe Mateta and defender Daniel Muñoz, the Eagles departed Dublin with a commanding win that virtually secures them a place in the Europa Conference League qualifying rounds.

Another three points in their next fixture against Finnish KuPS should be enough to seal direct passage to the last 16, particularly following a previous stumble against Strasbourg.

This match offered a chance for some of Palace's lesser-used players to impress. Christantus Uche, in only his second beginning after arriving on loan from Getafe, notched the scoring with a clinical goal. Striker Eddie Nketiah contributed a second, scoring for the second consecutive succession.

A Shelbourne team that had finished their domestic season were outmatched even for a largely rotated Palace outfit. The visitors were already weakened by the news that Mateta and Muñoz are sidelined with knee injuries.

Control Asserted from the Start

In spite of torrential rain in Dublin, Palace rapidly took control. A slick passing sequence in the 11th minute, initiated by Daichi Kamada's clever pass, let Nketiah to lay on Uche for a straightforward tap-in.

Midfielder Adam Wharton came close minutes later, driving a powerful shot over the bar. Nketiah then appealed for a penalty after racing into the box, but the referee waved away the protests.

Ex-Arsenal striker didn't need to wait long to get his goal, tapping home from a yard out after Uche's effort had struck the post.

The home side were hanging on desperately. Defender Kameron Ledwidge was lucky to avoid a booking for a couple of robust challenges on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards struck the woodwork with a header from a corner.

The contest was effectively over eight minutes before half-time. Yeremy Pino meandered past some comically weak challenges before coolly dispatching a shot past goalkeeper Wessel Speel to make it 3-0.

After the break, coach Oliver Glasner seized the opportunity to rest several players like Kamada and Wharton. Substitute Romain Esse came close to scoring his first touch, only to see his effort blocked.

Esse was desperately unlucky later on, seeing one shot strike off both posts before being clasped on the line. Uche then missed a glaring chance, indicating there is still room for development in his game.

A solitary concern for Palace was a late injury to Justin Devenny, who limped off. This paved the way for 17-year-old forward Benji Casey to make his first-team debut, rounding off an otherwise perfect night for the traveling side.
