Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
Lando Norris has outscored his teammate at all of the previous five race weekends.
The McLaren driver edged out team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the closing stages of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who grabbed the championship lead from his teammate by one point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, beat the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver during the running before the sprint shootout scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the sole remaining contender in realistic title contention, sitting 36 points behind Norris, was classified in 17th position as his team opted for a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to crash, if briefly, when he spun at the fourth corner early in the session.
The Japanese slid over the exit kerbs before spinning across the escape zone, and was fortunate to get away with just a slight brush of the barrier.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the final moments of the session, rotating twice through the fast downhill Mergulho corner approaching the last turn on to the start-finish straight.
The seven-time champion ended the session in P19, one place behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber in third, 0.619secs off Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was in fourth, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
